Traditional Marshmallow Squares


  • 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 40 large marshmallows
  • 5 cups crispy rice cereal


Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with heavy foil, allowing the ends to extend 2-3 inches over the pan for handles. Grease the foil.

Stove Top Method

In a large sauce pan over low heat, melt butter. Add marshmallows, stirring constantly until melted. Remove from heat and quickly add cereal, stirring until all pieces are coated.

Microwave Method

Melt butter and marshmallows in large microwave-safe bowl on high (100%) 2 minutes, stirring every minute. Quickly stir in cereal until all pieces are evenly coated.

Pour mixture into prepared pan and press evenly with back of spoon. Cool and cut into squares.
